SVA’s commitment to First Nations Peoples

Since our inception in 2002, SVA has been supporting First Nations peoples.

As an organisation created by the social sector, for the sector, we know that the colonisation of Australia has created systemic discrimination and disadvantage for First Nations peoples.

At SVA we unequivocally reject racism, violence and bigotry of any kind.

In recent years, we have taken conscious and active steps to strengthen our relationships with First Nations communities.

How we’re living that commitment:

This is SVA’s fourth RAP. It has been informed by the learnings from our previous three plans, alongside advice from internal and external First Nations stakeholders.

Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan

Our First Nations Practice Principles make sure our work with First Nations peoples and communities creates positive impact while doing no harm.

First Nations Practice Principles

SVA established a First Nations Advisory Council in 2024 to strengthen our connection and understanding of First Nations priorities and issues.

Our First Nations Community Strategy guides all staff in developing respectful relationships with First Nations peoples through the course of our work.

Ongoing cultural competency is a priority for all staff at SVA, at all levels.

At SVA, we take our role seriously in dismantling the ongoing effects of systemic racism. We pay our utmost respect to all First nations peoples, past, present and future. We will continue our own efforts towards true equality, to create safe spaces, and to hold ourselves accountable to this commitment.
