2020-21 Pre-budget Submission to the Australian Government
SVA’s submission recommends targeted investments to increase the impact of existing government spend, including a national education evidence institute and critical impact investing infrastructure
The 2020-21 Pre Budget submission focussed on two key areas with Social Ventures Australia’s expertise: Education and Social Impact Investing.
- On the education front, recommendations were made for the Australian Government to fund the National Evidence Institute to drive evidence-informed policy and practice in Australian Schools. The Institute, which later become the Australian Education Research Organisation, was informed heavily by SVA’s Evidence for Learning initiative which demonstrated the important role such a body could play in Australian education. The submission also called for funding of the Bright Spots Rural, Regional and Remote network. This network later become the highly successful The Connection program.
- The submission recommended for the establishment of permanent mechanism to engage government in social impact investing, including a Minister for Social Impact Investing and an Office of Social Impact Investing.
