Response to the Commonwealth Government’s Social Impact Investing Discussion Paper
Our submission recommends a series of initiatives through which the Commonwealth Government could support the Australian social impact investing market to grow and deliver better social outcomes.
SVA responded to the Commonwealth Government’s Social Impact Investing Discussion Paper and offered recommendations to foster the Social Impact Investment (SII) market in Australia.
SVA proposed:
- the Australian SII market, which involves private capital investment for social and financial returns, is ready for growth with the right support.
- initiatives for the government to help grow the SII market, provide necessary infrastructure, and support investments e.g. creating an enabling environment for private capital, appointing a dedicated Minister, establishing an Office for Social Impact Investment, developing a national Social Impact Bond capability
- SVA sees a significant role for the government in fostering a diverse SII market to achieve greater social outcomes in Australia.
