Working with employers to advance opportunity: A roadmap to strengthen the eco-system
The employer practice change eco-system in Australia: insights and observations on how to increase the positive impact.
Despite a strong labour market, over 1.4 million Australians are unemployed or underemployed. Distribution of employment opportunity is not even – with some groups, like those with disability, First Nations people and young people from low SES backgrounds more often finding themselves without work. A large number of organisations are working on this challenge – trying to connect employers with people who need opportunity. Many try to support employers to identify and eliminate practices that unnecessarily exclude potential talent. But progress is slow.
In 2024, with the help of generous philanthropic funders, SVA investigated the ecosystem of organisations working with employers on these challenges and considered what might strengthen its impact. The report draws on both domestic and international insights to suggest a roadmap to move forward.
